REVIEW: ‘Don’t Move’ A Unique And Thrilling Narrative

Don’t Move movie Review

Don't Move is a thriller directed by Brian Netto and Adam Schindler and starring T.J. Schinfel (V/H/S Viral) and David White. Iris (Kelsey Asbille) wakes up at the beginning of the film, ready to die. After overcoming her grief, Iris plans to climb to the top of a mountain and take a different route back down. But as she stands on the cliff, overwhelmed by her loss, she meets seemingly kindred spirit Richard (Finn Wittrock, The Luckiest Girl Alive), whose words convince her to take the long way. But when she descends downstairs, she discovers that Richard is a serial killer who has planned an even worse fate for her.

For many people, nothing is more terrifying than being powerless. The thin layer of control we have over our lives is completely stripped away, leaving us at the mercy of other people's whims. Being tied up and blindfolded is enough to send shivers down many people's spines. But what if it goes further? What if you can't move at all? What if you lose the ability to use nearly every voluntary muscle in your body? Or even worse, what if someone did it on purpose?

From the moment Iris realizes she's been poisoned to the end credits, Don't Move 2024 Theflixtor takes a concept that seems very modest and uses it to tell a suspenseful story. The plot takes a turn when Iris tries everything with minimal options to call for help or escape her captors. It's a striking example of creative writing. Her muscles weaken quickly and slowly return, but the tools at Iris' disposal remain more or less the same throughout the film. One decision that helps Don't Move maintain its creativity is its brisk running time. At just over an hour and a half long, the film fills its time brilliantly without feeling overwhelmed. When Iris first succumbs to the drugs, Richard even tells her that the effects will last for about an hour - the time remaining in the film until she loses her last vestiges of control. This makes her comeback seem perfectly paced.

A brilliantly written script is key in this type of thriller, but more importantly, how the protagonist conveys the reality and horror of her predicament. Iris is a fantastic character that you root for. From the moment the viewer discovers the sadness she carries in her heart, Iris becomes a sympathetic character. Additionally, viewers discover the resilience she mustered as she flees from Richard, hoping to escape before the poison has an eerie effect on her. This resilience is even more remarkable when one considers the state audiences find Iris in.

Despite having incredibly limited resources at his disposal after the poison takes effect, Asbille brilliantly conveys his character's fear and pain. The eyes are the window to the soul, and Asbille is able to show the audience so much through his eyes alone.

Whitlock's performance as the emotionally manipulative sociopath Richard alongside Asbille is equally powerful. His ability to transform from murderous hitman to crying husband searching for his missing wife when he has to fool people is absolutely convincing, and the way he manipulates others with his words is startlingly realistic.

Don't Move focuses primarily on its two main characters, but several others also cross paths with the duo in a peculiar game of cat and mouse. These supporting characters deliver solid, believable performances that help guide the story's path.

Don’t-Move

Don't Move skillfully uses silence to create memorable moments. While the majority of the film features appropriately tense music, the film picks a few key moments to strip everything away and let the silence dominate.

Don't Move does everything he sets out to do: he creates his own scenario and uses it fluently to create tension through unique moments. The cast does a great job of further building the danger and suffering of the film thanks to their well-executed performances. Combined with a running time that keeps the concept interesting, it's a thoroughly entertaining movie. You can watch the full movie "Don't Move" on the Flixtor movie website.
